Peer Review Process

Maritime in Community Service and Empowerment (MiCSE) uses a double-blind review system. This means that authors and reviewers don’t know each other’s identities.

All submitted papers are first reviewed by the editorial board to check if they fit the journal’s scope. Then, they are sent to at least two expert reviewers for evaluation. Reviewers look at the originality, clarity, methods, conclusions, references, and overall scientific quality. Authors may be asked to revise their papers based on reviewer feedback.

Responsibilities of Peer Reviewers
Reviewers are expected to:

  • Evaluate the originality and quality of the manuscript.

  • Follow MiCSE’s Author Guidelines.

  • Give honest, objective feedback.

  • Point out missing or important references.

  • Disclose any conflicts of interest.

  • Keep the review confidential and avoid contacting the authors.

If a reviewer cannot complete a review on time or finds the topic outside their expertise, they should inform the editor.

Editorial Duties
Editors are responsible for deciding whether to accept or reject a paper. They must:

  • Avoid conflicts of interest.

  • Ensure paper quality before accepting.

  • Correct or retract papers if needed.

  • Protect reviewer anonymity.

Review Guidelines
Before agreeing to review, consider:

  • Is the topic within your expertise?

  • Can you meet the deadline?

  • Do you have any conflict of interest or know the author?

All papers are checked for plagiarism by the editors, but if you suspect any issues, report them.

Reviewers assess the paper based on:

  • Clarity

  • Relevance

  • Significance

  • Research quality

  • Sound methods and results

Please leave comments directly in the manuscript and the review form, which helps authors improve their work. You may suggest one of these outcomes:

  • Accept

  • Accept with minor changes

  • Revise and resubmit

  • Reject

Proofreading is handled separately, but reviewers are welcome to note any language or formatting errors.

All communication is done by email, so please send your completed review to the managing editor.
